Back to Reality (and AWS Debugging) 🖥️

Monday arrived right on schedule, which meant back to the desk for another week. The day’s main frustration? An AWS Step Functions issue with our MySQL database dump process. The workflow – snapshot → dump → slim → anonymise – hit a snag, and naturally (as always is the case) each test run takes about 3 hours. Find an issue, fix it, wait 3 hours, discover there’s another issue. Repeat. The joys of debugging long-running processes.

On a more festive note, I spent some time finalising the Secret Santa and confirming everyone had drawn a name from the hat. We always use drawnames.co.uk to sort the names as it keeps things simple.

The evening was considerably more relaxing: finally got around to watching Nativity! (2009). This is a film I can easily watch every year (maybe even twice if there’s nothing else to watch).

I also managed a rainy walk with Cleo 🐕, because apparently December has decided to arrive with all the drizzle it can muster. She didn’t seem to mind; I was slightly less enthusiastic.

All in all, it was a fairly standard Monday: equal parts debugging, Secret Santa admin, dog walks, and festive films.

These daily notes are just snapshots of life outside the terminal. Expect a mix of mundane updates, tech thoughts, and whatever else seems worth jotting down.
